Taken a few months ago at a gallery in Chelsea, this is a Dan Flavin piece from 1967 titled alternating pink and "gold". In images I've seen of it installed other places one of the striking aspects is usually a glossy floor that acts like a mirror doubling its presence. Here the floors are just dusty matte concrete, so there is not an instant wow factor but it still had a strong presence. Compare 1, 2. I was there at night and coming in off of the street into the glowing room you felt like you literally walked into the sculpture, as opposed to some of his other pieces that feel more like objects on a wall. I found out later that his first work in fluorescent was called "the diagonal of May 25, 1963". And laughed at my slanted photo.

Hi Len!
This gallery completely missed the point. It was really instructive to leus see it with the reflective floor.
Hi Len, I love this picture. The way you took the picture on a diagonal really made it more interesting. If you could only walk into a room like that!
Hey someone has a birthday coming up soon! Happy Birthday Len!!!
We need a birthday photo next.
