I will admit that this was not the photo I was trying to take, nor is it what I saw looking out the window seat on my flight home from Chicago. After I took it I was upset; not only for the fact that this was not the crisp night-view of New York I saw out of my window, but also because I should have known the super-slow shutter speed could never have captured a good image on this very bumpy and windy landing approach to LaGuardia. "Total waste" I thought. Well, after viewing it again on my larger laptop screen I was blown away. This "accident" created a new image of the city, one where the cars and the buildings(and New Jersey too)all melt together into one gooey abstract mess. How much art has been created this way?
If you know New York and look closely you can make out all the layers in the photo(from bottom to top): Brooklyn and the BQE, The Williamsburg Bridge, the black East River and the bright lights from the river side sports fields, Delancy Street, Houston Street, the Woolworth Building, and New Jersey in all is glory below the dark sky.
