It's not uncommon to find older Italian men playing Bocce in South Brooklyn. Sometimes cursing and sometimes screaming like school girls after a good shot. This was taken on the not-so-common waterfront in Red Hook that, while not the easiest to get to it, affords spectacular views of the harbor and the statue of liberty. I read today that back in the 1990's Life magazine named it one of the ten worst neighborhoods in the U.S. and called it “the crack capital of America.” Now, in 2009, there is an giant blue Ikea, million dollar cruise ships, and according to my latest census, 3 hipsters with track bikes and iPhones per block. I'm not sure if this is progress or a social decline.

Lenny--I have missed these, but I am grooving on the added depth and texture, not to mention the esoteric tidbits you provide. I like how the old Italian man's arm is a perfect counterpoint to that of Lady Liberty!
