On a recent expedition to the North... side of midtown, I came face to face with this beast at the Central Park Zoo. I read on the zoo's website they have an "acute sense of smell and are able to detect a seal as far away as 20 miles" I wonder how tourtous it is for them living 200 feet away from the zoo's open water seal tank. One thought I had while at the zoo was how crazy it was that the millionaires across the street on 5th avenue go to bed each night with two 1000lbs polar bears sleeping (and smelling them) only a few hundred feet away. I pulled out this photo from a few weeks ago because I read this article this morning about the new findings on melting arctic land ice.
